Inability to be manipulated by the opposite sex by means of sexual intercourse or suggestion thereof is not the same as hate. Furthermore, why should we take seriously anyone who supports the transcult or believes it’s acceptable to use the q-word to describe homosexuality? Always pay attention to the semantics.
My God, the last sane people left on the left are g*nd*r-critical radical feminists, the ones who remind me most of the second-wavers and Southern lesbians I was acquainted with when I came out of the closet. They were the ones who challenged the inherently sexist and homophobic idea that semi-arbitrary social customs define male and female rather than human biology. And they, like gay conservatives, are routinely marginalized and targeted for all sorts of harassment — and worse — by the Regressive Left. I seriously doubt the biggest threat to women’s rights today is a perceived return to unreconstructed 1950s style “women belong in the kitchen” male chauvinism. It’s from those on the Left who turn a blind eye to the calculated attacks on lesbian and gay male spaces, identity, bodies, history, and present-day culture because some, but not all, of the perpetrators are those who are just a tiny shade darker than Hitler.

The article talks about reclaiming a classic male put-down — “man-hating lesbian” — not about hating in the sense of “I hate men.” Don’t confuse the two or generalize.
What the article calls for — reclaiming “man-hating lesbian” and tossing it back at the men who use it as a put down — is no different than the way in which gay men of my generation reclaimed “faggot” in the 1970’s and 1980’s and tossed it back at the straight men who used it to put us down, or the way in which young blacks today reclaim “nigger” in rap and toss it back at whites who would use it to put them down if the whites thought that they could get away with it, or the way in which many Jews reclaimed “kike”, “hymie” and other anti-Semitic put downs over the years.
I suppose that a few gay men hate straight men, a few young blacks hate whites and a few Jews hate the goyim, but they are few and far between. What the article is talking about it is fighting back, not hating.
I think that it is a good thing to challenge put-downs, to toss them right back, to fight back. Put up with shit and nothing changes. That’s the message of the article.
The present fascinating in this respect. The old, white men (along with the white women who enable them) forming the core of the conservative base are terrified by BLM and the #MeToo movement, talking about “angry mobs” when there are none, redefining anger as “hate” and generally pissing their pants about both movements.

I think that it is a good thing to challenge put-downs, to toss them right back, to fight back.
I do not think “reclaiming” racial, ethnic, sex, or religious stereotypes, whether they are slurs are not, is a good thing. It serves only to reinforce the negative messaging of inferior other.
Most people switch their language on and off when they go into different settings. Saying that one hates men is unacceptable in mixed company, regardless of the context, and a lot of people treat the internet as if it is a safe space when it is actually mixed company.
While I believe very strongly in safe spaces where one should speak freely (see Hulk Hogan and Gawker), the boundaries we observe among ourselves in intimate settings in my view reveals something about a person’s character and trustworthiness that extends into mixed company.

It seems to me that an agency that does “really good work” parenting children, much like any parent that is a real person and not an agency, should be given the deference to make its own value decisions about how children should be raised.

Agencies? You mean like the same ones that handle adoptions and the foster care system? Those are usually done on state and local levels, IIRC, not the federal level as per the 10th amendment.

The federal government has a way of giving states and local agencies money to practice good (big*cough*vernment) civics. Law enforcement and foster care services are prime examples. They get lots of money, but in the process they have to play by the federal government’s rules. Rules which change every so often. If you don’t play by the rules, you don’t get money.
It’s not always a means of control by the feds, though. Many government and private agencies innovate on their own dime, doing some things the federal government refuses to pay for, while receiving federal dollars for their basic programs. Probably the most well known example of this split is Planned Parenthood.
As for why an adoption agency has to ask for money directly from the federal government instead of being paid entirely by the state which can decide on its own whether to bite the bullet of non-compliance, that is a little beyond my understanding at the moment.

As a side note to Kosh’s note on South Carolina, I notice that the petition for cert was filed last Friday in Klein v. Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries.
The petition asks the Court to overturn Justice Scalia’s opinion in Employment Division v. Smith , which held (to use Justice Scalia’s words) “the right of free exercise does not relieve an individual of the obligation to comply with a valid and neutral law of general applicability on the ground that the law proscribes (or prescribes) conduct that his religion prescribes (or proscribes).”
If the Court grants cert, I suspect that this will be one of the most carefully watched cases of the Term. You will recall that the Court avoided a substantive decision in Masterpiece, remanding the case for consideration of bias but not addressing the core issues.

I do not think “reclaiming” racial, ethnic, sex, or religious stereotypes, whether they are slurs are not, is a good thing. It serves only to reinforce the negative messaging of inferior other.
Most people switch their language on and off when they go into different settings. Saying that one hates men is unacceptable in mixed company, regardless of the context, and a lot of people treat the internet as if it is a safe space when it is actually mixed company.
While I believe very strongly in safe spaces where one should speak freely (see Hulk Hogan and Gawker), the boundaries we observe among ourselves in intimate settings in my view reveals something about a person’s character and trustworthiness that extends into mixed company.

The Conservative union approved a rabbinic ruling that concluded that sex reassignment surgery is permissible as a treatment of gender dysphoria, and that a transgender person’s sex status under Jewish law is changed by sex reassignment surgery. Both Reform and Reconstructionist unions have issued statements and halachic rulings that support sex reassignment treatment.
I wonder, frankly, if you would be as pleased to see Judaism (in any of its many flavors) become the “National Religion of the United States”. For this and many other reasons, based on what you’ve written over the last few months.

I’m legitimately undecided about this one.
It seems to me that an agency that does “really good work” parenting children, much like any parent that is a real person and not an agency, should be given the deference to make its own value decisions about how children should be raised.
I just have too many questions about workability.

Agencies? You mean like the same ones that handle adoptions and the foster care system? Those are usually done on state and local levels, IIRC, not the federal level as per the 10th amendment.

The federal government has a way of giving states and local agencies money to practice good (big*cough*vernment) civics. Law enforcement and foster care services are prime examples. They get lots of money, but in the process they have to play by the federal government’s rules. Rules which change every so often. If you don’t play by the rules, you don’t get money.
It’s not always a means of control by the feds, though. Many government and private agencies innovate on their own dime, doing some things the federal government refuses to pay for, while receiving federal dollars for their basic programs. Probably the most well known example of this split is Planned Parenthood.
As for why an adoption agency has to ask for money directly from the federal government instead of being paid entirely by the state which can decide on its own whether to bite the bullet of non-compliance, that is a little beyond my understanding at the moment.

As a side note to Kosh’s note on South Carolina, I notice that the petition for cert was filed last Friday in Klein v. Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries.
The petition asks the Court to overturn Justice Scalia’s opinion in Employment Division v. Smith , which held (to use Justice Scalia’s words) “the right of free exercise does not relieve an individual of the obligation to comply with a valid and neutral law of general applicability on the ground that the law proscribes (or prescribes) conduct that his religion prescribes (or proscribes).”
If the Court grants cert, I suspect that this will be one of the most carefully watched cases of the Term. You will recall that the Court avoided a substantive decision in Masterpiece, remanding the case for consideration of bias but not addressing the core issues.
