Harsanyi also observes: “Anyone with a functioning moral compass is horrified by the thought of the government seizing confused children from parents and allowing strangers to mutilate their bodies via “gender-affirming care,” a perverse euphemism for plying children with puberty blockers or hormones, or worse.”

The party’s positions on trans issues are not based on “science” or medical evidence, but were incubated in left-wing academia:
On the subject of academia and how supportors of trans ideology want to stifle any debate on their positions, the Wall Street Journal reports on an attempt at the University of North Carolina to foster civil debate, which is, of course, opposed by “progressive,” Muslim and TQ+ student groups (“These Schools Want Civil Discourse on Campus. Even That Is Up for Dispute”):
CivComm [is] a residential hall affiliated with a program at UNC called the School of Civic Life and Leadership (SCiLL). … At CivComm, all discussions are governed by an agreed-upon set of rules; as one student put it, while residents might strongly disagree, they must still live with one another…. Her experiences there have made it hard to put people in boxes and helped her recognize their inherent goodness, even when they have very different beliefs. … Another student organization, TransparUNCy, has organized boycotts and teach-ins opposing the school. “Your participation in these classes only continues to fund the cancerous growth of SCiLL,” warned its Instagram account.
