The Washington Post article is behind a paywall, guess Miller thinks we’re all DC elites with money to spare.
The little bit I could read was about challenged elderly gay folks may face as they age. It wasn’t about terminology.
But facts are irrelevant when there’s a chance to insult those who don’t goosestep along with the homocon fantasy.

Stephen….do transgender folk have a 2nd amendment right? Yes or no?

I wouldn’t take Stephen’s nonsense too seriously.
I’ve been on IGF for 18 years, and I’ve come to understand that Stephen follows the party line on whatever the GOP’s “resentment of the day” might happen to be from election cycle to election cycle.
Over the years, Stephen has argued that gays and lesbians were pushing too far and too fast, that gays and lesbians pushed for legal equality while ignoring more important issues like jobs and taxes, that gays and lesbians were “poor winners” who refused to allow businesses to discriminate as usual, and so on.
Stephen’s hammering down on trans issues is just the latest iteration of the theme.
I am watching the last week of campaigning before the election with horrified fascination, as Republican candidates pile on the trans-train, many pushing the demented lie that public schools are putting litter boxes in place and a few now demanding that public schools “prove” that children don’t use litterboxes, and others, including Stephen’s namesake, attacking trans kids in one way or another.
Stephen’s obsession with trans issues will pass, just as soon at the Republicans find another target.

Stephen doesn’t engage with readers so don’t look for an answer. But Stephen clearly does believe that everyone has 2nd Amendment rights, specifically gays and lesbians, and presumably including transgender folk.
Years ago, Stephen, devoted several threads touting the “Pink Pistols“, a group dedicating to arming and training LGBTQIA+ Americans against attack.
The group’s motto is “Pick On Someone Your Own Caliber”, and the group’s specific purpose is (quoting from the group’s current website): “We teach queers to shoot. Then we teach others that we have done so. Armed queers don’t get bashed. We change the public perception of the sexual minorities, such that those who have in the past perceived them as safe targets for violence and hateful acts — beatings, assaults, rapes, murders — will realize that that now, a segment of the sexual minority population is now armed and effective with those arms. Those arms are also concealed, so they do not know which ones are safe to attack, and which are not…which they can harm as they have in the past, and which may draw a weapon and fight back.”
The interesting question is whether or not Stephen backs down if and when transgendered folk start blowing away attackers.
