Our New Design

Yes, we’ve redesigned the site! Sorry if some comments were lost in the changeover. We’re still learning the new interface, so blogging may be slow for awhile. Hope you like the new look.

(We know that author names have been jumbled and that many of the posts below do not have a correct byline. We’ll try to fix these glitches ove the weekend). Update: bylines are fixed.

More. Some comments that the system thinks might be spam are not posted. These are manually reviewed, but may explain why comments don’t appear. This is,  however, necessary to avoid spam. I’m told we may have to put back the “enter these letters” box in order to avoid spam as well. We’ll monitor and see. Likewise, the request to enter your email is to foil spammers.

All artice content is still on the site and searchable. We took off the “search by category” buttons because we figured most people are comfortable just searching by key words. We may look into putting it back, however.

We decided to treat content as content, and move away from article vs. blog distinction.  Actually, we decided to stop posting articles in whole because it was labor intensive, and the articles are online elsewhere. Instead, we’ll be linking to articles of interest using shorter blog posts, along with longer and more substantive blog post.

The new interface has a few glitches that we’ll try to iron out. But all told,we’re very happy with it. We hope you’ll warm to it as well.

Good job. I’m glad I don’t have to write the security code of numbers and letters to post. I was getting sick of the old system.

But why insist that we write our e-mails? Seriously indegayforum, you’re complicating things.

I would encourage you to stack the two columns on the right and make the comments column wider. This space is too narrow.

Wow… this seems like a serious down-sizing. Where are all the articles that were written by contributors? You know, the ones that used to be organized by either topic or author. Are those all gone?

I second esurience’s question – those articles were some of my best resources when I talk to friends and family about lgbt issues. If they’ve been removed from the internet, that would be a great loss.

I preferred to old site. Information was presented in a much clearer, more organized way.

    I like the new layout.

It’s bright, streamline, and has a more up-to-date feel.

And you no longer have that irritating feature with the box of letters to match before submission of comments.

I’m sure they’ll eventually situate the articles on the front page as before.

Let’s just say I’m not a big fan of change.

I’m hoping that the addition of a comment-preview feature will be a priority, as the blog team gets a hang of the new interface.

Apart from that wishlist item, I like the new design.

The search feature gives you only recent posts/articles without scrolling and scrolling, and then only article titles. Searching by Google (“search term” site:indegayforum.org) works better.

    Thanks, good to know.

What’s the difference between “Recent Posts,” and–well, where are the Links to articles available elsewhere and which were time-consuming to post? [The real reason for the re-design?, but I can’t kvetsch about you trying to save time…] I do feel cramped, myopic, tunnel-visioned. I could breathe better with the original, also look out a picture-window onto a terrain–now seems like a narrow-window view into an alleyway… Good to see the blog-roster however.

Could you not have changed the layout without changing the way the site works? I do like the layout change: it’s easier to read. But it’s a pity the content and behaviour isn’t quite the same.

    TRiG.
