[This aside, originally intended as a short follow-up to an earlier piece on Iran and gays, was tacked on to the post about gays and guns but generated all of the comments. So I've reposted the guns piece at the top. ]
Okay now, how many comments until our Kos-minded visitors reminded us, for the umpteenth time, that Bush equals Hitler? (it's a continuing refrain in the comments to last week's post taking issue with academics protesting criticism of Iran's executions of gay citizens).
Speaking of some of our frequent commenters, this may explain it.
17 Comments for “Follow-up: Iran, Gays, Critics…”

(1) You get people on the left who call conservatives fascists and you are also going to get people on the right who call liberals communuists.
(2) The court’s Lawrence ruling was based on rational review, standard, which gives the government a fair amount of power to still discriminate against gays. You probably would prefer the current free speech standard.

I think this is the first time I’ve seen a blog openly insult it’s readers like this.
Additionally, I’m not entirely sure I see the connection between the quote and the readers comparing Bush to Hitler.

I don’t get it. What is the connection between Instapundit’s quote and the barb against liberal comments?

Nothing, thom — he’s just trying to discourage anyone besides self-loathing, Red-Blooded Bush lovers to vacate the premises 🙂

What a ridiculous and petty post. This site slides further and further towards self-parody every day. Stephen smears the very people who visit his site with a comment about (I presume)liberal commenters comparing Hitler to Bush. He even includes a link to a previous article where, one would suppose, people could find out what he is ranting about. If you go to the link you will find that NO ONE IS SAYING WHAT STEPHEN WAS IMPLYING. The only thing I could find was a commenter spreading the same lies that Stephen wants to perpetuate about liberals on IGF drawing unfair comparisons between the current administration and the Hitler/Stalin regime. What a fucking joke…grow up Stephen, maturity matters.

Ah, the liberal mindset. So TOLERANT. All together now, “LOVE ME, LOVE ME, LOVE ME, I’M A LIBERAL.”
You folks think it’s just a-ok to visit daily and insult the blogger, but oh my, if he should take umbrage, HOW INTOLERANT!
Guess what, you didn’t create this space, HE DID. It’s his livingroom you come into, sometimes daily, to remind us all of each and every deviation from the left-liberal party line you have never thought to think twice about in the last decade.
If you’re unhappy here, go somewhere else! This used to be a forum for discussion among libertarians and conservaties, then the Kos crowd showed up and took over. So if you’re headed out the door, make sure it doesn’t slam on your ass.

Uh huh.
Can you picture Rove pressing his brown uniform, finding glee in discrediting the educated classes, the professors, researchers, scientists, artists, musicians, and moderates, while hyping up the simple patriotic ferver of the german homeland and worship of the state? I can.
The moderates, the free-thinkers, the writers, the “liberal academe” are opposing forces to fascism and bushism. They are enemies which need to be destroyed. That was my point, that it’s no surprise to me that those types of people would be Miller’s verbal target, given Miller’s apparent politics.
And what, exactly, ARE those “educated classes” saying and supporting?
Well, like Columbia University professor Nicholas De Genova, they’re claiming that anyone who is patriotic is a “white supremacist”, that a “million Mogadishus” should be visited on American troops, and praising people like Asan Akbar, who roll grenades into the tents of their officers trying to kill them.
Or they’re saying, like his colleague and supporter Eric Foner, who has publicly stated that the only true heroes are those who find ways to defeat the US military.
Meanwhile, who do these folks support?
Gotcha.

Huh? How does Samantha’s odd ramble about Bob Jones University equate to what Stephen is charging? Wait…let me grab my crazy glasses…Ah, that’s better.

Let’s see, references to “brown uniform”, “german homeland”, and “fascism and bushism”.
Wonder why she chose those? Don’t think she was trying to make a comparison to…oh, say the Nazis, was she?

ND30: “Don’t think she was trying to make a comparison to…oh, say the Nazis, was she?”
I have no idea what she was trying to draw a comparison to. Her post is odd and has no point. She was NOT saying what Stephen references in this posting though, that is a fact.

Colorado Patriot, honestly I don’t know how Samatha could have spelled it out more clearly; maybe if she sent you a telegram?
Do you think a strategy of deny and lie is going to win your argument for you? I guess so, and it’s typical of the mindset of the left where facts increasingly don’t matter (all reality is socially constructed) and the purity of one’s emotions in service to the progressive (sic) ideal is all that matters.

It’s a long way from “umpteenth time” and “continuing refrain” to one individual making comments about the slimy Mr. Rove.
I’m kind of with kittynboi and Jordan on this one – seems kind of dumb to hurl insults at the people you want to come visit your site – and comment – and send their money.
Someday, Avee, it will just be you and Stephen and ND sitting around congratulating yourselves on how intelligent you all are. I’m sure that will work out great for you.

AVEE: “I guess so, and it’s typical of the mindset of the left where facts increasingly don’t matter…”
It might be a typical mindset of SOME on the left (I’m a conservative Sweetie, your smears sort of missed their mark), but how does that apply to me?
Ditto what Hank said…and, yes Avee, please spell it out for me. How does what Samantha wrote equal out to the charges that Stephen put forth?
posted by Avee on
Gee Hank, and just how much have YOU contributed? Or any of the other leftwingers? Give me a break! That’s the most absurd thing yet! It’s the libertarians and conservatives to whom this site is intended to serve, and who you and your comrades do nothing but disparage, who contribute.
CP: You have been shown, yes upteenth times, the remarks comparing Bush and the GOP to brownshirts and fascism. You simply deny that they mean to compare Bush to Hitler. That’s too absurd for words. You clearly live in your own reality.

Avee: “You have been shown, yes upteenth times, the remarks comparing Bush and the GOP to brownshirts and fascism.”
I have? Where?
Avee: “You simply deny that they mean to compare Bush to Hitler.”
I don’t have to deny that, the posting by Samantha plainly doesn’t compare Bush to Hitler. Samantha put forth a hypothetical situation where Bush/Cheney/Rove invite a young Hitler to Bob Jones University. I have no idea what point Samantha was trying to make but it certainly wasn’t to compare Bush to Hitler (as you and Stephen desperately want). Why all the aggression in your posts here?
Avee: “You clearly live in your own reality.”
The same to you, Sweetie.

(1) The two major international LGBT groups are; http://www.igla.org and the http://www.iglhrc.org. Neither one of them appears to be ‘conservative’.
(2) Gay conservatives seem really eager to point out the homphobic polices in Iran, but really want to avoid the homophobic polices in Iraq. Do they really care about human rights or are they just trying to support the neo-conservative foreign policy?
(3) People on the political left and right are not above petty name calling or personal attacks. If conservatives do not want to be called fascists, then why do they call liberals communists?
posted by Avee on
So let’s sum up; the leftwingers call Bush a fascist, and Colorado Patriot repeatedly denies that their words says what they say. Then ETJB says that conservatives call lefties communists. So boys, which is it?
Miller calls out the leftwing academics for saying we shouldn’t criticize Iran’s anti-gay (and murderous) policies. And all we get from the lib-left commenters is the rant that conservatives are Nazis. Enough said.
