Translation: “We oppose ENDA because it doesn’t give us what we want, including forcing any and all religious organizations to do our bidding.”

I think that Rosendall is right. More to the point; what are people going to do — invest in resources and time — to move transgender rights foward?

This entire debate underscores why special rights legislation is such a bad idea — it breaks people up into little camps who fight for their government goodies.

Equal rights lobbying from the grassroots represents the future of LGBT progress. While special-rights laws like ENDA have floundered for 30+ years in DC’s corridors of power, equal rights victories in Massachusetts and other states have come “straight up” from the grass roots.

What the “debate” really underscores is the profound lack of substance in ENDA in general — to label the passage of a neutered, outdated special-rights bill by the House of Representatives alone as a “historic victory” really underscores just how out of touch the DC “professional activists” really are.

Civil rights are not special rights.
