I wonder about Stephen’s continual use of the term “openly gay” when referring to urban conservative homosexuals who are out of the closet, as if that were something unusual, something remarkable, something out of the norm.
Are most conservative homosexuals still in the closet? Is it unusual for conservative homosexuals to be out? Is it really something worth remarking at every mention?
I’ll admit that I don’t know a great deal about conservative homosexual urban culture except from the glimpses I pick up on IGF, but in south central Wisconsin, being out of the closet (that is, among family, friends, neighbors and in the workplace) is the norm for adult gays, neither unusual nor remarkable. People just know, and people just don’t care..
Unless most conservative homosexuals remain tightly closeted, why then mention the fact (as in so-and-so is “openly gay”) at every mention? Is it to add some sort of “identity” creds to whatever the writer is saying?

I would be interested to see the wealth of scientific data on this. Or is this just an opinion that homocons love to cite?
Likewise, do we have research into how transgender people are — allegedly — trying to recruit children?
