Mayor Pete’s Race Problem

More. Via The Federalist:

Overall, blacks lag other racial demographics in supporting same-sex marriage. A bare 51 percent majority of blacks support same-sex marriage, as opposed to 58 percent of Latinos and 62 percent of whites. These numbers suggest Buttigieg may have difficulties attracting black support even if he becomes better known among voters generally.

While black attitudes on LGBTQ issues pose a particular problem for Mayor Pete, his candidacy exposes a more general issue for a Democratic Party whose elites are disproportionately white leftists. The elite response so far, including from establishment media, has been to bury the issue.

For example, three Democratic presidential candidates—Sens. Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, and Cory Booker—campaigned at the Victory Missionary Baptist Church in Las Vegas. The church is led by the Rev. Robert E. Fowler, Sr., who believes being gay is “enough to send you to hell.” Fowler also has compared homosexuality to child molestation, which apparently caught Harris completely unaware.

Homophobia among African Americans is the issue that LGBTQ progressives have never wanted to address

Wait, wait… Kamela Harris dropped to 7%. Whites are racist and sexist!

I don’t think the reason Buttigeig is polling 0 from African Americans because they’re homophobic. I think it’s because they’re racist. They have visions of Bull Connor in their head as they reimagine that old canard: a black man voting for Pete Buttigeig is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.

African Americans gossip across the country, you know. It doesn’t often hit the national media.

This is a hilarious angle for the Federalist to take, seeing as 51% still beats Republican support for same-sex marriage.

And sure, Democrats campaigned with homophobic holy men. So do Republicans. Or are we forgetting how Cruz and Huckabee shared a stage with Pastor “kill the gays” Swanson. Miller (and other Republican apologists) assured us we shouldn’t care about that.

So I mean, they’re not wrong. But black folk, as a demographic, are still better on LGBT issues then white Evangelists, and are still better then Republicans as a whole.

That said, Miller, you should really check out the comment section of that Federalist article. It kinda shows why LGBT folk aren’t that worried about anti-gay bias among the black community. Because Republicans are worse.

Now the faggot is running for POTUS and he’s lecturing Americans.

      How America has fallen.”

You switched the subject from homophobia as measured by support for same sex marriage to LGBT issues, period. Just wish to point out the these aren’t the same.

Well, white Evangelicals aren’t urban so I wouldn’t know how homophobic they are compared to African Americans, especially on matters of violence toward the general public. I consider African Americans to be dangerously homophobic. Whites will let you escape.

And now you’ve changed the subject yet again to anti-gay bias. I will avoid the temptation.

If Mayor Pete gets the D nomination he will get as much black votes as any other D candidate. Getting rid of the adulterous lying POS is the goal for everyone but his devotees.

I’m still shaking my head that anybody is fretting what their position on marriage equality is. Against it, for it, who cares? It’s been a fact on the ground for over 4 years now. What their take is on “religious liberty” laws is more germane at this point.

    Let me get this straight;

When (mostly) white conservatives are racist or homophobic, it is the fault of anyone but them. Personal responsibility be damned.

When African Americans are homophobic, personal responsibility is the only thing that matters.

What do you base this on?
I certainly don’t see it that way and I have been in and around black churches all my life; my degree is from an HBCU and my cleric hubby of many years is black.

Like many white churches, especially evangelical and Pentecostal, there is a lot of hate spewed from the pulpit but the congregants are now mostly accepting or indifferent.

What do you base this on?

An intuitive amalgamation of local news, personal observation, and personal conversation from adolescence to present.

As usual, I should perhaps modify this to African American men. But I will not qualify this further.

This is not in any way intended to rebut or diminish the observation that African Americans are progressive or tolerant toward LGBT people. However it is more important to have a danger sense than it is to understand the “risk” of allies being present.

Some big wig Conservatives do not like Mayor Pete and seem to be trying anything to discredit his campaign. I suspect that this is because Mayor Pete is a fairly religious person, which could complicate the GOP Strategy with the “values voter”.

If you want to appeal to African American voters, then you gotta talk about their concerns and policy priorities. That is pretty much the rule of thumb for any demographic of voters.
