    1. The Israeli occupation is immoral. Period. The fact that the Palestinian authority tends to be corrupt or fundamentalist is immoral, but it is a fact that does not change the fact that the occupation is immoral.

    2. Generally speaking, a nation has to reach a certain level of development, before it supports LGBT rights. Even then, it is almost always advocated by progressive people and not conservative people. This was the case in Israel.

    3. I do not think that that boycott is going to help, especially when the peace process and the many development challenges (in Palestine and Israel) are going to require financial (among other) resources.

      Yes, this sort of immorality does seem to be a regional fault.

      Morality is irrelevant in matters of national security against threats to the integrity and survival of a nation. We tortured KSM for vengeance (this is not a concession that waterboarding as designed by the Bush administration is torture), degraded the prisoners of Abu Ghaib, Iraq, and desecrated the corpse of Osama bin Laden. These went far beyond “immorality” and were in all three cases criminal. They were the product of a series of decisions and value choices by patriots, faithful, and sworn defenders of civil freedoms that deliberately prioritized the security of this country over the moral purity of our armed forces and their commander-in-chief. In so doing, they created an environment where more nefarious actions thrived; they also kept the country stable and shattered al-Qaida.

      I have long since been convinced of Israel’s view that its foreign and national security policy is one of very high personal stakes.

    For fear of playing “whataboutism”, basically all our politicians, including our president, support Saudi Arabia which regularly executes gay folk.

    So sure, their foreign-policy preferences don’t align perfectly with American values. Just like every other politician.
