Trans Orthodoxy vs. Lesbian-Feminist Heresy

You don’t have to agree with Meghan Murphy’s critique of transgenderism to see that something is very wrong in the way trans activists and their supporters react to opinions they dislike, especially when it comes to lesbian-feminists who don’t want to share locker rooms and showers with people who have male bodies.

Meghan Murphy writes:

In San Francisco, which one might assume to be a hot spot for lesbian pride, a group of women carrying signs that read, “Proud to be lesbian,” “Lesbian Visibility,” and “Lesbian not queer” were harassed and bullied. Feminist historian Max Dashu, who was in attendance, said she and the other “old lesbians” were surrounded by “young queers” who pushed them and chanted “TERFs, go home.” On Facebook, she wrote: “I’ve been to many marches, including dangerous ones, but this was the most vicious episode I have ever experienced, ever in my life.” As a result of Dashu attending the march alongside these heretic women, she was disinvited as a speaker, most ironically, from a group called the Modern Witches Confluence. When it comes to the campaign against TERFs in trans-compliant progressive circles, even self-described witches now go in for witch hunts.

In my more curmudgeonly moments, I wonder if these disputes couldn’t be settled in a Texas Cage Match.
Unlike some commenters, I generally think everyone deserves courtesy until they become abusive. Trans women are women by courtesy…

I am old enough never to be surprised by the nastiness of infighting in the feminist movement as a whole, and the lesbian subset of that movement in particular. I won’t speculate as to the underlying cause, but I will observe this kind of bitter infighting has been pervasive, endemic and long-standing. I would not generalize this incident, or others like it, into anything more than it is.

Obviously, this comment is not mine. Our resident troll seems to be getting into spoofing. I hope the volunteers that have faithfully maintained IGF over the years will take note.

Remember the blond boy from WHO’S THE BOSS who not only couldn’t act but managed to reinforce every negative gay stereotype in the book, up to and including but not limited to him getting AIDS? He got it from us.

What’s that? You’re making a topic on the military-industrial complex that secretly has its tentacles into every aspect of American life?

I don’t care. I choose to remain in ignorance. My personal connection to what’s right and wrong is stronger than any fancily named conspiracy.

Really, Mr. Miller, sometimes you need to bury the subject in your argument rather than the title.

Now let’s see if the horse feed or the peasants are worth biting today?

Dog whistle about the wages of sin being death and how too many G, L, B, Ts think lust being misunderstood love is a justification for every other sin in the book. Rah.

You should care because if they get away with doing this to lesbians, then there will be nothing to stop them from doing it to gay men as well.

      I will stop them.

My son in law is Navy, and he was the Diversity Officer on his ship: the Navy has no issue with GLBT folks as long as they do their jobs and maintain good order.

However, they do have problems with folks who want to disrespect other soldiers, gratuitous insults and name calling, and consider hatred of Trans Sailors the same thing as homophobia.

“President Donald Trump on Friday signed an updated trade agreement with Canada and Mexico that includes LGBT protections.

The NAFTA update includes a provision – pushed by Canada – that encourages countries to adopt policies prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the workplace.

Trump signed the trade deal at an event in Buenos Aires with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto.

Trump praised the agreement, which he referred to as the United-States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), but failed to mention the LGBT provision.

“All of our countries will benefit greatly,” Trump said. “It is probably the largest trade deal ever made, also. In the United States, the new trade pact will support high-paying manufacturing jobs and promote greater access for American exports across the range of sectors, including our farming, manufacturing and service industries.”

Colorado Representative Doug Lamborn, a Republican, had led a group of 38 House Republicans in calling on the president to remove the trade deal’s LGBT provision, saying that it’s “no place for the adoption of social policy.”

In a statement released after Trump signed the agreement, Lamborn called the language’s inclusion “a loss for American sovereignty.” http://www.ontopmag.com/article/46462/GOP_Rep_Doug_Lamborn_Calls_LGBT_Protections_In_Trade_Deal_A_Loss_For_US

Guess it’s safe to ignore the whole story, then.

Republicans traditionally hate these kind of provisions because we fear outside courts will use their authority to invalidate US laws without our consent. That’s why we don’t sign too many treaties anymore. It’s such an old issue that by now I think it is moot–we’ve learned how to only sign treaties that will no erode our sovereignty.

So I think this is a dog whistle for something else. It’s not as simply as “I hate gays”. It’s more about containment. There’s a certain strain of influence-peddler that is most concerned with how LGBT issues are discussed internationally, and how the United States itself plays into that. The people who complain about that aren’t the same people who complain about marriage decisions and domestic laws.

I could be wrong. Heaven knows the media has a habit of selectively quoting people.

The irony is that the United States caused a footnote to be added to the treaty that effectively eviscerates the treaty’s requirements.
