This is absolutely a case of hypocracy and ultimately won’t do for this kind of sexual harassment: I believe there will be consequences for Ronell.
And real liberals are calling it out as such: see http://www.lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2018/08/perils-academic-star-system

“We testify to the grace, the keen wit, and the intellectual commitment of Professor Ronell and ask that she be accorded the dignity rightly deserved by someone of her international standing and reputation,” the professors wrote.

Imagine if someone wrote a letter like that for the pedophile priests.

In March 2018, Professor Ronell pointedly complained that Mr. Reitman had a penchant for “comparing me to the most egregious examples of predatory behaviors ascribable to Hollywood moguls who habitually go after starlets.”

I fail to see any meaningful difference between the casting couch and the bohemian bed.

Um, many people have written such things about pedophile priests. It’s part of why the church kept shuffling them around for decades.

It’s also similar to the stuff people wrote about Polinsky (or however you spell his name).

People standing by their peers, even when they really shouldn’t be, isn’t uncommon.

Yeah, like cops protecting the “bad apples” as in Nashville where the police union says shooting a fleeing man in the back is justified. (Daniel Hambrick)

An armed man, who was ordered to drop his weapon.

Absolutely justified. One less killer on the streets, too.

He was NOT a killer, and only allegedly had a gun. He was shot in the BACK from a substantial distance. If the cop was so chicken shit scared, he should’ve stopped chasing the man, who was NOT doing anything wrong except running away.
O wait! his crime was driving while black.

Are you talking about heterosexual male serial child rapist Roman Polanski, or gay (no one’s said otherwise) actor Alexander Polinsky who had to endure four years of homophobic abuse from that untalented, sexually hostile Italian douchebag Scott fucking Baio on that hideously unfunny travesty called CHARLES IN CHARGE, a blatant ripoff of the far superior GIMME A BREAK! starring the fabulous gay black Jewish messiah Nell Carter?

I had to endure physical and emotional abuse from men and women throughout my formative years. Now maybe people will start believing men, especially gay men.

Hi, everyone — long-time lurker, first-time poster, and will be starting my sophomore year at college in September. As a gay-supportive heterosexual, I find Matthew offensively bigoted. My girlfriend (who is also heterosexual) broke down and cried in distress when she saw Matthew’s outrageous post in an earlier theard that heterosexuality is a “perversion.”

Although my mother always taught me that its better to ignore bigots (such as Matthew) than give them the satisfaction of ATTENTION, all I can say is that if I ever met Matthew on the street or at a party or in the third floor men’s room of the Old Library stacks between 11 and 1130 pm, I would punch him in the face so hard and so long that he didn’t know what was happening, and then I’d give him a swirly in the toilet and steal his pants and tell everyone he was a homo and then hit him a few more times with my heterosexual fists.

(There. If that doesn’t count as tsedakah and a mitzvah, I don’t know what does.)

Hi, everyone — long-time lurker, first-time poster, and will be starting my sophomore year at college in September.

If you are going to pretend to be a “first-time poster” you might want to use a different picture than the one you used for years when posting as “Throbert” McGee, and if you are going to pretend to be a college student, you might want to use one that masks your age a little better.

And what’s with the “As a gay-supportive heterosexual …”? Huh?

Rob McGee – Openly homosexual man, but “gay” sounds stupid. Anti-anal, pro-Frot. Bible-believing atheist. Non-Randroid libertarian. Can “гаварить па-рюсски” a little.

As David Bauler points out above, Matthew is a troll. We’ve had plenty of those on IGF over the years. You don’t need to add to the pile by becoming one.

When you posted as “Throbert”, you used to post thoughtful comments, admittedly from a somewhat unique perspective. Why not do that again, instead of trolling?

Stop projecting your own trollhood onto me, you fascist toad, and stop pandering to the oppressor classes at the expense of other gay people. Heterosexuality is a choice, a perversion, a fetish, and a form of sexual violence. Regressive Left trolls engage in sockpuppetry to defame their critics on the time, and bullies like you cheerlead them as you refuse to admit that toxic heterosexuality is a thing that needs to be condemned as loudly and often as possible.

Thanks for proving Dorothy Parker right when she said “Heterosexuality is not normal, just common.” You dirty breeders talk tough, but take your computer away and you prove once and for all you’re just a bunch of cheap, provincial, witless, bigoted, low life cowards. If you throw so much as a punch at me, I will rip you limb from limb and grind your bones into dust.

You’re nothing but thugs and barbarians. Stop colonizing gay spaces, you breeder son of a bitch!

A white heterosexual gentile man hitting a gay Jew counts as a hate crime. Oh, and all Jews are people of color; it is racist to impose white racial identity on Ashkenazi Jews.

The three biggest threats to the gay community in 2018 are as follows:

    1. All non-Jewish religions.

    2. All non-homosexual forms of human sexuality.

    3. Gay Uncles Tom and Aunts Jemima who enable them.

    Isn’t Scharbach a German name?

I think so, Matthew, but if it is, my name is a good example of how names mislead about ethnicity. According to my DNA, my ancestors were from the Balkins, Eastern Europe (presumably Ashkenazi), Nigeria, North Africa (presumably Sephardi) and Scandinavia, but none from Western Europe (France, Germany and the Low Countries). So German in name, perhaps, but not in fact.

As a gay man and a Jew …

Are you observant, and if so, what Union are you affiliated with? My experience suggests that Reform and Conservative unions are “gay-supportive”, but the Orthodox unions not so much.

… I’m sick and tired of being lectured and insulted by you people, and I use that term loosely.

    No doubt. And we, also.

Even the ultra-ultra Orthodox Jews couldn’t keep Israel’s Knesset from legalizing gay sex in 1988, 15 years before Lawrence v. Texas made sodomy laws unconstitutional in the US.

Even the ultra-ultra Orthodox Jews couldn’t keep Israel’s Knesset from legalizing gay sex in 1988 …

Not that they didn’t try, mind you. But Israeli bifircation between secular and religious authority held fast, and sodomy was decriminalized. The same thing happened when the Knesset allowed open military service by gays and lesbians. And so on.

However, where the Orthodox hold authority over the law (as in the case of marriage), the situation is not favorable to gays and lesbians. Same-sex marriages, for example cannot be contracted (religious authority) in Israel, but out-of-country same-sex marriages by Israeli citizens are recognized for civil law purposes (secular authority).

Israeli law is a mixed bag when it comes to gay/lesbian rights
(ahead of the US in some areas, behind in others), but as is the case in the US and most Western democracies, gays and lesbians have been making steady progress. Not so, unfortunately, in much of Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

… 15 years before Lawrence v. Texas made sodomy laws unconstitutional in the US.

True, but that doesn’t tell the whole story, because many (I believe a majority) of the states in the US had decriminalized sodomy before the Knesset acted in 1988. I’d have to check the dates to be sure that the majority was in place by 1988, but I do know that 36 states had decriminalized sodomy laws before Lawrence was decided.

Not the one I grew up in, unfortunately. And we were not a solid red state, either.
